GRAUNCH FROM FRONT SUSPENSION
The customer complains of a noise when driving over speed humps or undulating surfaces.
Cause
Resonance noise from front road spring and damper assembly.
Action
Where a customer complaint of noise from the front suspension is received, before proceeding with this bulletin, refer to earlier bulletin GRAUNCH/SQUEAK FROM FRONT SUSPENSION (Suspension section - 0002). If satisfied that the earlier bulletin is not applicable, the condition to which this bulletin refers can be confirmed as follows:
- Raise bonnet.
- Bounce front end of vehicle.
- The noise will be heard emanating from the front road spring upper seat area. With care, it may also be possible to feel the vibration on adjacent components.
When the offending road spring has been identified, replace with the appropriate spring as detailed in PARTS INFORMATION.
NOTE: The new road springs can be fitted individually. It is NOT necessary to renew in pairs.
- Refer to Workshop Manual Suspension Section, repair number 60.20.01 for repair procedure.
- When the old spring has been removed it is possible that a noise isolator (A in illustration) will be found fitted to the top coil. This item is not required with the new design spring and must NOT be transferred to the new spring.
