AIR DISTRIBUTION CONTROL KNOB SPRINGS BACK FROM THE SCREEN POSITION
The customer complains that the air distribution control springs back from the desired position when attempting to select windscreen demist.
Cause
A dimensional error on the air distribution link rod.
Action
Where distribution control knob spring back is confirmed, replace the existing link rod assembly with the new assembly JTN000010, as described below.
1. Set the air distribution control to the face level vents only position, (fully anti-clockwise).
2. Remove the centre console, Workshop Manual repair number 76.25.01 refers.
3. Viewing the right hand side of the heater assembly, identify the distribution planet gear, (A in illustration 1). Note its position on the distribution gear B. The timing mark arrowed in illustration 1 should be aligned with the distribution gear as shown.
1
NOTE: If the gears are not aligned as shown, correct the alignment as described in step 2 of the replacement procedure below and recheck the operation as described in step 3 below.
If operation is now satisfactory, no further action is necessary.
4. Remove screw and retaining bush (C in illustrations 1 and 2) and remove the planet gear from the distribution gear.
2
5. Disconnect the link rod from the distribution lever, (D in illustration 2) and remove the link rod assembly. Replace the link rod assembly with new assembly JTN000010, as follows:
1. Connect the new link rod to the distribution lever (D in illustration 2).
2. Ensure that the distribution gear is still rotated fully anti-clockwise, (face vent position), fit the planet gear to the distribution gear, aligned as shown in illustration 1 and refit the retaining bush and screw (C in illustration 2).
3. Rotate the distribution control knob in both directions to confirm that full travel is obtainable. If not, recheck and correct the planet gear timing mark alignment.
4. Refit the centre console, (76.25.01). When complete, confirm that operation of the air distribution control is still satisfactory.
