Freelander - Rear Tail - Door Glass Operation

Rear Tail-Door Glass Operation

To provide maximum convenience, and to accommodate owners who find they have parked their Freelander in a way that makes opening the tail-door impossible, Land Rover have built a number of special features into the tail-door glass system:.

Opening

Opening the tail door can be done by either:

Closing

In other words, it is possible to have the glass half down but not half up.

Door Glass Back-Off

Freelander's rear door glass is a first for Land Rover in being frameless, and with electric operation. Ingenious design ensures a positive seal with the vehicle body, through all-electric operation/

As soon as the rear door release is pulled, a signal is sent to the door glass open/close control module. This causes the glass to lower, or back off about 25mm. As soon as this operation is complete, the control module releases the latch to allow the door to be opened. There is no mechanical connection between the handle and latch; both glass and door are operated electrically.

When the rear door is closed, there is a slight pause, then the tailgate glass automatically raises itself to the closed, sealed position.

When the hard top is removed, or the hood folded, the glass automatically retracts into the rear door.
