NOISE FROM STEERING COLUMN AREA - THROTTLE CABLE
The customer complains of a buzzing noise from the steering column/footwell area which occurs when the vehicle is slowing down.
Cause
Inner throttle cable vibrating within outer casing.
Action
Assess the vehicle as follows:
- With second or third gear selected, accelerate until an engine speed of 3000rpm is reached.
- Completely release the accelerator pedal, (foot clear of pedal).
- As the engine speed falls between 2500 and 2000rpm, a buzzing noise may be heard from the steering column/footwell area.
- If heard, repeat the test. As the noise occurs, lightly touch the accelerator pedal to take up any cable slack, this should eliminate the noise.
- Replace the throttle cable with a new shorter cable, refer to PARTS INFORMATION for details.
Change the throttle cable as described in the Workshop Manual, repair number 19.20.06, noting the change to the installation as described overleaf.
- Do not attempt to locate the new cable in the manifold clip, (A in illustration). This clip is no longer required as the new shorter cable will adopt a natural run between the bulkhead and the throttle body.
- To prevent any future attempts to locate the cable in this clip, remove the clip and discard it.
