Problem -
DIFFICULT STARTING IN DAMP CONDITIONS - KING LEAD
The king lead becomes loose at the ignition coil connection.
Cause
The king lead comes into contact with the air box. Vibration against the air box loosens the connection between the king lead and the coil causing HT flashover in damp conditions.
Action
On customer complaint of poor damp starting, replace the existing king lead with the new lead described below. The new lead has a redesigned cap at the coil end which incorporates two internal sealing rings, (arrowed in illustration 1), to improve retention to the coil.
NOTE: Whilst the cap has been redesigned, there is no change to part number. When fitting the new lead, route as described below, to avoid contact with the air box.
- Remove the king lead, (K in illustration 2).
- Fit the new king lead, ensuring that it is to the improved design shown in illustration 1, passing it underneath HT leads 3 and 4 (illustration 2) to prevent contact with the air box.
- Ensure that all connections are secure and that the king lead is clear of the air box.
- Apply a dab of yellow paint to the new lead to indicate that it has been changed.
