Re-Issue Information
Problem -
SOFTBACK SEAMS SPLITTING IN 'E' POST AREA.
The customer may also complain of difficulty in sliding the Softback beading between the body finisher and the 'E' post finisher or roof bar mounting point.
Cause
Incorrect setting of the 'E' post finisher or roof bar adaptor giving a foul condition with the body finisher. This results in the application of undue stress to the Softback material when it is removed or refitted.
Action
Follow the procedure below to reset the body finishers to optimise the gap between the lower body finisher and the 'E' post finisher or roof bar adaptor. The minimum acceptable gap is 0.5mm and the maximum acceptable gap is 2.0mm
Vehicles without roof bars.
1. Release the Softback fasteners to reveal the lower body finisher.
2. Loosen the two 'E' post finisher Torx bolts, (arrowed in illustration 1).
3. Push the 'E' post finisher downwards and outboard so that it locates fully onto the body and maintains a minimum gap to the body side. The gap achieved between the 'E' post finisher and the lower body finisher must be between 0.5mm and 2.0mm, (refer to illustration 1).

4. Tighten the two Torx bolts to 4Nm.

1. Release the Softback fasteners to reveal the lower body finisher.
2. Loosen the two roof bar adaptor Torx bolts, (arrowed in illustration 2).
3. Push the roof bar adaptor downwards and outboard so that it locates fully onto the body and maintains a minimum gap to the body side. The gap achieved between the roof bar adaptor and the lower body finisher must be between 0.5mm and 2.0mm, (refer to illustration 2).

4. Tighten the two Torx bolts to 22Nm. If the specified gap cannot be achieved by the above method, continue as follows:
1. Remove the lower rear quarter trim panel, Workshop Manual repair number 76.13.12 refers.
2. Remove the 'E' post lower body finisher.
3. Place a spacing washer WB11208L between the rearmost body finisher fixing and the body and refit the finisher.
4. If the gap is now excessive, reposition the 'E' post finisher or roof bar adaptor as described above, to achieve the required gap of 0.5mm to 2.0mm.
5. Refit the rear quarter trim.
